Chinese cuisine is without a doubt one of the most gloriously delicious foods out there. They have so much to offer and so much that the world can enjoy from. There is nothing quite like Chinese food! and for most of us having egg stir-fried rice or Szechwan chilli chicken or spring rolls is food for the soul. Because there is something really comforting about the smell and taste of Chinese cooking (and no I am not saying that it is entirely because of the MSG) so here is a very short list of some of the best of Chinese cooking:
Dim sums are basically like dumplings melbourne. They are small perfectly bite-sized balls of elastic like dough which are filled with various meats and vegetables. Dim sums are traditionally eaten with chopsticks (as are most Chinese meals for that matter- it is a tradition after all) after having been dipped into a sauce that is typically soy. If you want to get a real taste of China, then dumplings are what I would recommend.
Noodles are so much a part of our everyday life that we seem to forget where they even came from. We have China to thank for the noodle. The east is famous for its broths of warm noodle soup and other ramen noodle dishes. Noodles are an absolute staple in chinse every Chinese home, as most busy Chinese parents can whip up a quick meal of delicious stir-fried noodles in just a matter of minutes.
Kung Pao Chicken
This deliciously spicy stir-fried chicken dish will always be a favourite with the locals and the rest of the world too. It is spiced with Sichuan peppercorns because the dish originated from a place in southern China called Sichuan. It is a yummy mix of mostly chicken, onions, chillies and occasionally some vegetables like bell pepper. If you like a spicy dish that you can eat with steamed rice, then you must try this.
The world shall forever owe it to China for introducing us to spring rolls. These golden appetizers are perfect for parties and small functions or any event when you have a lot of guests to feed. They are usually stuffed with only vegetables but many people add whatever ingredients they choose to when they make it at home. The spring rolls are often dipped into a sweet, chilli sauce that will make your taste buds burst with excitement! And if you do not believe me then it just means you have not had the right spring roll and dipping sauce yet.
If you have not tried some of these wondrous flavours then I suggest you grab some of your food-loving buddies, get in your car and drive to a Chinese restaurant near you so you can taste some of the exquisite food they have. Because you are going to seriously regret not trying out Chinese food otherwise. And although we are discussing Chinese cuisine I am going to go right on ahead and quote the French by saying “Bon appetite!”
